Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that can be practiced for sport or self defense. Most street fights end up on the ground. But if you have not been trained in ground combat you may find yourself seconds away from defeat -even if you have trained for years in boxing, karate or another martial art that does not teach ground fighting techniques. At NYBJJ we will teach you how to escape from the bottom position when you are on the ground and how to use leverage and technique to overcome size and strength to survive a realistic street attack. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class also specializes in techniques such as chokes, Judo take downs, submissions, and control of an opponent on the ground. You will learn various techniques that will increase your chances of survival in any self defense situation. At the same time you will increase your strength, muscle tone, and flexibility. Conditioning exercises are done in every class. Jiu-Jitsu uniforms (kimonos/Gi's) are required for this class.
